The queen knows how many ants she sent out to "scout" things and if they don't return she will hatch that many more eggs, so you won't get rid of them. Instead you need to set out the bait traps that take the food back to the colony to kill the queen, then you will get rid of your colony! It works every time. We did it once in Camarillo and never had any more problems and just did it here before we left for California. They have bait boxes or this clear gel that you can place on a cardboard square.
